UPDATE: Milford Softball Heading into State Semi-Final, Game is Wednesday
Milford over Bridgewater/Raynham 7-0: next game is Wednesday, June 12.
Update: Milford will play Central Catholic of Lawrence Wednesday in Taunton at 7 pm. The game was postponed one day because of weather.
Milford will not only be playing in the State Semi-Final but this was also the 4th consecutive sectional title for the Scarlet Hawks. Milford's only scare came in the bottom of the first, but as usual their defense came through. With runners on second and third and 1 out Shannon Smith fielded a popped up bunt and fired to third to a waiting Jill Powers for a double play and the end of the scoring threat. It took Milford 3 innings to get rolling offensively but once they started they never looked back. Jill Powers (2-2, rbi) and Lauren Hanna (2 walks, 2 runs scored) both had tremendous at bats and were able to draw walks off a pesky Bridgewater/Raynham pitcher, setting the stage for Shannon Smith (single, double, hr, 3 rbi). With 2 out in the top of the third Smith drove a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to give the Scarlet Hawks the lead. Coming into the game with a 23-0 record, BR was unaccustomed to the position they were in and things only got worse for them in the 4th and 5th innings. In the BR half of the fourth with 2 outs they tried stealing second but Taylor LeBrun threw a laser to an again waiting Jill Powers who applied the tag ending the inning. In the Milford 5th Caroline Fairbanks (double, 2 rbi), Taylor LeBrun (single, rbi) and Jill powers all had rbi for Milford, giving the team a 7-0 lead. Allie Piergustavo (2 hits) and Rachel Levine (single) also added to the Milford hit brigade. Smith mowed down the BR batters in the 6th and 7th innings and Milford was again a Sectional Champion. Smith finished with 9 strikeouts allowing only 2 hits. Milford had 10 hits for the game.
