Write Your College Essay Over the Summer
Class of 2014 Students--Don't wait until the last minute to write your college application essay. Finish it over the summer and your senior year will be stress-free!
Calling all Class of 2014 high school seniors! You may not know it now, but your senior year schedule will soon be overflowing with college applications, standardized testing, senior activities, and school work. Seniors (and their families) often become overwhelmed and consumed by the stress. One key step you can take to make sure next Fall is stress-free is to write your college application essay over the summer.
The Common Application essay is one of the most critical parts of every college application, yet it also causes the most anxiety, frustration, and negative thinking. According to the National Association for College Admission Counseling, a majority of colleges and universities believe the essay to be of considerable or moderate importance in determining which academically qualified students they will admit. In other words, today’s colleges are faced with far more qualified students than they can accept and a compelling essay can help one student stand out from the others.

Joanne Apesos and Beth Brooks offer a hands-on workshop to help get those essays written. After many years of working with students, Apesos notes that one of the most common and costly mistakes high school seniors make is waiting until the last minute to write their college essay. A second common mistake is choosing the wrong topic to write about. To help avoid these mistakes and others, this small group format workshop gives students the knowledge, tools, and motivation to get it done. They will leave the workshop with a solid first draft that can be finalized over the summer. The next workshop is scheduled for Thursday, June 27 from 9:30 to 12:30 in Holliston. The cost is $125.
