Brush Fire Breaks Out In Milford, Man Charged: Police

As the state deals with numerous wildfires due to drought conditions, a brush fire was reported in Milford on Saturday morning.

MILFORD, MA — A man is facing accusations that he lit a brush fire that damaged Town of Milford owned land.

Devonte Johnson, 28, of Dorchester, was charged with burn land/tree/lumber/produce, set fire on another's land, set fire in open, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.

The Milford Public Safety Communications Center received calls reporting a brush fire at 8:48 a.m. Saturday morning.

Police said they found Johnson running away from the scene.

Police took him into custody following a short foot pursuit.

He was held on $1,500 bail and taken to the Worcester House of Corrections to await arraignment.

The arrest comes as wildfires have popped up around the state due to severe drought conditions.

Firefighters have dealt with large blazes in Salem and Middleton, and the state issued a Red Flag Warning, indicating critical fire conditions.
