Tonks On Ice

"Tonks On Ice" - Tonkinese Cats to Star in Local Cat Show (Great Vendors of Unique Cat-Related Items, too)

Tonkinese cats, known as the clowns of the cat world, will glide into the Doubletree Hotel (11 Beaver St., Milford) on Saturday & Sunday, February 26 & 27, for a unique, family-oriented event -- an all-breed cat show featuring some 225 cats, coming from as far away as Texas and Missouri.  Think "beauty contest for cats."

"The cats don't really skate," says local resident Lynn Jordan (of Bolton, who works in Hopkinton at Caliper Life Sciences), "but they seem to glide across the floors and do amazing acrobatics."  Lynn  is the show secretary and an active member of the Tonkinese Breed Assn., the international club sponsoring the cat show,  which is licensed by The Cat Fanciers' Assn., the World's Largest Registry of Pedigreed Cats.

Pedigreed cats of 40+ breeds will compete in 3 divisions: kittens, championship (unaltered adults) and "premiership" for spays & neuters. Household pets also have their own division, too. All cats are judged by 8 judges and compete for grand champion, regional and national titles.  Additionally, the top 3 Tonkinese in each of the divisions will win special, much-coveted awards.

Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Handicapped accessible.
