ICYMI: Owner of Dog Who Chewed His Own Foot Off to Escape Doesn't Show Up for Arraignment
A man charged with animal cruelty did not show up for his court date.

MASSACHUSETTS—The owner of a dog who chewed off his own foot to free himself from shackles skipped out on his court date on Thursday.
Kevin Kennedy was set to be arraigned on on count of felony animal cruelty charges for neglect and failure to pursue veterinary care, and did not show to his arraignment at Wareham District Court, WCVB is reporting.
Maverick chewed off his own foot in a desperate attempt to free himself from the tether that twisted around his leg for days, if not weeks. The emaciated long-haired German shepherd was rescued by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals-Angell Memorial on July 12 and rushed to a nearby animal clinic.
More than a thousand came forward to offer to adopt Maverick, and nearly $60,000 was raised for his care (for more than what was needed, so the money was forwarded to a fund at the MSPCA).
On July 19, Kennedy of Middleboro, the dog's previous owner, was charged with one count of felony animal cruelty for neglect and failure to pursue necessary veterinary care.
