A Letter to the Voters of Milford

Announcing the candidacy of Justin Dulak for School Committee

To the Voters of Milford,

Local journalism has always played an important role in my life. My mother and father met through, and later co-operated, an independent newspaper distribution company that delivered copies of the Middlesex/Metrowest Daily News and Milford Daily Sunday to convenience and grocery stores from Hopedale to Shrewsbury. This business lasted for nearly twenty-five years, and came to include both of my sisters and I as we came of age. Both of my parents have now passed away, but the memory of my ink-stained fingers in the early morning twilight is a vision that will never fade.

I must also credit those pages with serving as my introduction to civic life and politics. My parents always made sure to have an extra copy of the paper for our house, and countless were the mornings my mother and I spent trading sections and discussing the latest happenings. The Sunday edition, with its “Beacon Hill Roll Call” and expanded editorial section, captivated me for hours. With so much of my own history written in these pages, I can think of nowhere else I would prefer to officially announce my candidacy for School Committee in Milford, and begin the process of introducing myself to our town’s wide and diverse electorate.

The cornerstone of my campaign, the modus operandi of why I am running, is two-fold. First, I am a born and raised Milfordian, a proud product of the very school system I now seek to serve. During my time in the Milford Public Schools, I and my family were the recipients of some extreme generosity, and now that I am an established adult, the time has come for me to begin returning those favors. I am forever indebted to this community, creating a duty to serve that is set deep within my bones.

Secondly, I am unique amongst the candidates in this race in that I can offer a new, yet experienced, voice to the Committee. I studied education in college, and have worked in the Superintendent’s Office in the Sudbury Public School system for nearly three years. Additionally, I have spent the last fifteen months advising Milford High School Principal Josh Otlin as a community representative on his School Improvement Council. All of this means I will be able to hit the ground running as the newest member of the School Committee for Milford Public Schools.
