Milford Candy Shop Gets Funding For Employment For People With Disabilities

MILFORD, MA — A downtown Milford nonprofit candy shop has received new funding to support employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Sweet Inspirations received a $10,000 general operating grant from Point32Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan, the organization announced earlier this month. The nonprofit provides vocational training and employment opportunities to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The grant was directed by Point32Health’s Abilities+ Colleague Resource Group. It was one of nine new investments made through the company’s colleague groups to improve health outcomes, according to the release.

Point32Health employees will also work with Sweet Inspirations through volunteer service or other opportunities during the coming year.

The Aaron Zenus Foundation established Sweet Inspirations, which opened in downtown Milford in 2022. The nonprofit operates as a candy and specialty gift shop where employees can receive vocational training, develop workplace skills and gain employment experience.

“We are incredibly grateful to Point32Health and the Abilities+ Colleague Resource Group for their generous grant and shared commitment to supporting Sweet Inspirations,” said Jennifer Walsh, co-founder and executive director of Sweet Inspirations. “This investment will ensure young people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Central Massachusetts have greater access to meaningful employment and achieve independence.”
