MILFORD, MA — The Milford Cultural Council is seeking artists for a new public art project tied to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The council, in partnership with Italian American World War Veterans of the U.S. Post 40, is accepting designs for three picnic tables that will be painted in a patriotic theme and placed under the pavilion at ITAM Veterans Hall, 4 Hayward Field, near the Upper Charles Trail. Design entries are due by midnight July 24.

Artists of all levels, including students, amateurs and professionals, may submit designs. ITAM Post 40 will purchase and prime the tables, and each of the three winning artists will receive a $500 stipend.

Winning artists will be recognized on metal plaques installed on the tables and in an online portfolio of Milford public art projects.

Designs will be reviewed by members of the Milford Cultural Council and ITAM Post 40 for feasibility, originality, innovation, and adherence to design criteria. The council expects to announce the winning artists Aug. 3, with the tables completed and placed on public display Sept. 6.

The project is the third round of the council’s Brush to Table Picnic Table Project, which began in 2021 and has placed painted picnic tables in Milford parks and outdoor community spaces. The council has also overseen Trash to Treasure, which turned trash barrels into public art, and a large-scale mural at Milford Town Park’s Fitness Court Studio.
