Milford Disabled American Veterans Chapter Could Close

The organization said there are not enough active members to keep the Lawrence J. Heron Chapter 6 DAV alive.

MILFORD, MA — Milford's Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Lawrence J. Heron Chapter 6 is in danger of closing. The organization took to Facebook on Tuesday to express concern about the possible closure. It said the chapter does not have enough members to keep it alive.

The Milford DAV chapter has been serving the town for 70 years offering services to veterans suffering from a disability associated with their service. The DAV provides information about available services through the VA, helps veterans with their claims for disability compensation, and provides transportation to and from VA medical appointments if needed. On a local level, the Lawrence J. Heron Chapter holds forget-me-not drives to raise money for local needy veterans. This year the chapter provided local veteran families with over $3,500 in gift certificates for food.

To keep the chapter alive, members are asking more disabled veterans to join. The Facebook post specifically asks for younger men and women, to ensure the continued care of the next generation of disabled veterans.
