Milford Health Board To Host Hazardous Waste Event

Get rid of everything from acid to pool cleaning chemicals at this November event.

MILFORD, MA — The Milford Board of Health's free annual hazardous waste disposal event is back.

On Nov. 6, residents can head to the Milford Highway Department building, 30 Front St., on Nov. 6 to drop off all types of waste products (with a few exceptions). Each resident will be able to drop off up to 10 gallons of waste, with no single item larger than 5 gallons. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Here's a list of items that will be accepted, according to the health department:

  • Aerosols
  • Ammonia-based cleaners
  • Anti-freeze
  • Disinfectants
  • Drain openers
  • Flea powder
  • Furniture polishes
  • Gasoline
  • Herbicides
  • Household batteries
  • Insecticides
  • Kerosene
  • Mothballs
  • Motor oil and car batteries
  • Oven cleaners
  • Paint removers
  • Paint thinners
  • Pesticides
  • Photo chemicals
  • Rust removers
  • Stains
  • Swimming pool chemicals
  • Toilet bowl cleaners
  • Transmission fluid
  • Turpentine
  • Varnishes

Items that won't be accepted:

  • Latex, oil based paints (accepted at transfer station for $2/gallon, $1/quart and pint)
  • Commercial or industrial generators
  • Smoke detectors
  • Dioxin contaminated pesticides, etiologicals, explosives, gas cylinders, pathologicals,
  • PCBs, radioactive material, and shock sensitive materials
