Milford Hosts Final Long Range School Building Forum

The forum will be Monday night at 7 p.m. in the high school.

MILFORD, MA— The last school building forum will be held at Milford High School Monday night for residents to get a word in about the district's school buildings. The forum will start at 7 p.m. and be held int he Teacher Resource Center of the high school. Two previous forums were held by school leaders.

The Long Range Education Facilities Plan Committee was created a few months ago to come up with and aggregate recommendations for school building renovations, future buildings and major projects the district could take on. The committee will reveal a finalized plan in June.

In an effort to reach as many residents as possible, the district is also planning on launching an online survey this week through the district website.

On the table are options to combine the middle and high schools at West Fountain Street, building an entirely new high school and renovating Stacey Middle School. The high school was built in 1971 with the last renovation going back to 2004 and most of the major systems in the building including plumbing and heating being original to the building. Stacey Middle School is even older, originally built in 1900 with the last renovation in 1994.

Fo any building projects the district plans to undertake, it will likely submit a statement of interest with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), who usually reimburses towns 54 percent of the total project cost.
