Milford Rolling Green Apartments Evacuated After Fire

A fire broke out in one apartment on the third floor, forcing the whole building to evacuate at 4:30 a.m.

MILFORD, MA — An overnight fire at a Milford apartment building forced residents in the 12 units out of their apartments at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday. The fire broke out on the top floor of an apartment building in the Rolling Green apartment complex on Rolling Green Drive in Milford. Fire officials said no one was hurt but the damage to the building is severe.

Milford fire officials said the fire broke out in the ceiling of a third floor apartment. Most of the residents were in their apartments at the time and had to be evacuated while firefighters battled the blaze.

The fire grew to two-alarms, forcing Milford Fire Department to call in help from neighboring departments, officials said. The fire was put out by 8 a.m. but crews stayed on scene throughout the early afternoon to make sure there were no hotspots and investigate the cause.

Fire officials said the majority of the damage was contained to the top-floor apartment where the fire originated, which is now uninhabitable, but some surrounding apartments suffered smoke and water damage.

The Red Cross stood by to help relocate the residents in the affected apartment and any other residents who may not be able to return to their homes. The building has 12 units in total.
