Milford Closing Schools, Town Hall, Library For 2 Weeks

MILFORD, MA — Milford is closing many aspects of town government to the public for the next two weeks in an effort to stop the spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19.

The facilities closing for two weeks include all Milford Public Schools, Town Hall, the Animal Control department, the library, the youth center, and the senior center. The facilities will close until at least 5 p.m. on March 27.

"We want to reassure residents that the risk to the public in Milford remains low. However, we want to proactively prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID19 in our community. Employees in these buildings will be working normal hours. Please conduct your business with these government employees via phone or email," the town said in a bulletin.

Milford closed all schools on Thursday and Friday for cleaning after a staff member at Woodland Elementary came into contact with a person who is presumed positive for COVID-19. The staff member went into self-quarantine.

The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on Friday morning provided guidance to all districts on how to deal with the outbreak, but state officials did not order school districts to shut down. That decision is being left up to individual superintendents.

The guidance did order school districts to cancel gatherings of 250 or more people — in line with an order handed down by Gov. Charlie Baker on Friday.
