MILFORD, MA — The Milford Target store is seeking permission to expand in size by thousands of square-feet, according to plans submitted to the town.

Representatives from Target will go back to the Planning Board on Tuesday to discuss the plan, which calls for a new warehouse on the north side of the building, plus a much larger area for pickup orders, according to plans.

The new 13,300 square-foot warehouse would take over parking spaces between the store and I-495. The existing Milford Target store is about 126,000 square-feet.

But for customers, the potentially more impactful upgrade will be the addition of a special area for pickup orders. Twenty-four spaces will be set aside for online pickups, an expansion from the existing four pickup spaces. The new pickup area would be located at the southern end of the Target parking lot near Fortune Boulevard, according to plans.

In-store pickup exploded during the coronavirus pandemic, with large and small stores across the state offering the option to virus-weary shoppers.

Representatives from Target went before the Planning Board in July over the plans after receiving the support of Town Planner Larry Dunkin. The hearing was continued until Tuesday so the Planning Board could see new stormwater and traffic plans for the store.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss and potentially approve the plans.
