Milford's Special Ed. Department Holds Open House , Hope to Form PAC

The new(ish) director and assistant director are hosting an open house to meet with parents, and talk about the department.

MILFORD, MA — The Milford Public School system is offering a unique chance for parents to meet with the directors, and get to know more about the special education department.

The MPS Special Education Department holds an open house for parents on Monday, Feb. 6, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Teacher's Resource Center (TRC) at Milford High School.

Milford does not currently have its own Parent Advisory Council, rather it joins with Hopedale and Northbridge. Department Director Lucy Jenkins hopes to change that.

"While social media has helped some parents with specific questions regarding special education in Milford, it does not allow for effective collaboration with the school community and with key parties in the school district," wrote Jenkins in a letter to parents. "It is my hope that with a PAC, we can all work together to ensure that your children receive the best possible education in the setting that fosters their strengths and one that has the supports in place to bridge the gaps due to their challenges."
