New Downtown Milford Improvement Project Underway
A new downtown façade improvement program offers to cover 75% of revitalization costs for the exteriors of downtown businesses.

MILFORD, MA- A new program pushed by the town's Downtown Revitalization Committee is helping downtown property owners give their buildings the facelift they've been waiting for.
The downtown façade program will pay for 75 percent of improvement costs for selected applicants. The state has already agreed to pay $150,000 for the plan.
The town is currently accepting applications from local businesses in the downtown who meet the program requirements. Listed in the guidelines, some of the requirements include being a business or non-residential property, being located in the downtown area and the project must meet all state and local building codes and zoning requirements.

The town has hired an architect and grant writer to assist in the application of the program.
Projects that will be considered for funding should limit improvement to the building façade or only what's visible from the street. This can include window improvements, repainting or cleaning up signage as acceptable projects but interior design and repairs are not.

At Monday night's Board of Selectmen meeting the board took a moment to recognize the Downtown Revitalization Committee for its efforts in improving the town. Board of Selectmen chairman Michael Walsh said the town should be proud to have the committee on its side. "It's a totally volunteer board that cares deeply about this community and we should be proud of people like that," he said.
Selectman William Buckley made the point that the revitalization committee is the perfect example of citizen involvement in the community. "Seeing this take off is really invigorating and I'm appreciative and I want to say thank you to that committee," he said.
Applications can be picked up at Town Hall and a list of guidelines and requirements can be found on the town's website.
