Richard Moore Endorses Tom Merolli for State Senate
Tom's Birthday bash brings several endorsements
Milford, Mass. -- During a celebration of Democratic State Senate candidate Tom Merolli’s birthday Sunday night, former State Sen. Richard Moore formally endorsed Tom Merolli for the Worcester-Norfolk district seat.
“Tom has the integrity and strength of character that is needed on Beacon Hill to stand up for the people he represents,” Moore wrote. “I believe he will work in a bi-partisan fashion for what is best for this district and the Commonwealth even when it sometimes means that he must vote opposite the Democratic leadership. We can count on Tom to do what is right, not what is self-serving or blatantly political! He will be an independent voice for us because he has rejected the potential corruption of financing his campaign with ‘dark money’ from special interest groups who refuse to reveal their donors.”
Tom has previously announced a pledge to reject campaign contributions from organizations that do not disclose their donors, also known as “dark money.” He has extended an invitation to take this pledge to his opponent, incumbent Sen. Ryan Fattman, who has not yet responded.
“Everywhere I’ve gone in the Blackstone Valley has led me to believe that [Sen. Moore] has huge shoes to fill,” Tom said of the endorsement. “His influence is just remarkable, but sadly I don’t believe those shoes have been completely filled yet. But when I get in there I am going to do the best I can to live up to his legacy.”
The Committee to Elect Tom Merolli celebrated Tom’s 28th birthday on May 27 at CraftRoots Brewing in Milford. The event drew more than 100 supporters and was also attended by special guest, congressman Jim McGovern. McGovern offered remarks supportive of Tom’s campaign.
“When you elect somebody, you are hiring them to work for you, and that is someone who is going to represent your interests and fight for the things you care about,” McGovern said. “Like schools, roads and bridges, public safety, dealing with this opioid crisis that has ravaged our entire country, not just this area. We need someone to deal with the issues that really matter and I think that’s what [Tom] is going to do. That’s what he’s all about.”
