Stacy Middle School Students Win Red Ribbon Contest
Holly and Paul Roberts will receive their award on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Two Stacy Middle School students, Holly and Paul Roberts, and their family are the proud winners of the 2014 National Red Ribbon Photo Contest.
A recent press release indicated that the contest takes place each year as a part of National Red Ribbon Week, which is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention campaign. The event is sponsored by the National Family Partnership (NFP).
During the month of October, Holly and Paul worked with their family to decorate their home with this year’s theme, “Love Yourself. Be Drug Free™.” All this was done to promote their commitment to living a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. The young students earned $1,000 for their school and an iPad for their family.

“Red Ribbon Week is important to me because the more you talk to your children and the more involved they are with positive projects like this, the less likely they are to venture out into the world of trial and error,” said Denise Roberts, Holly and Paul’s mother. “My hope is to fill my kids with so much knowledge on the effects of drugs that they can be positive role models for their friends and make smart choices as they get older.”
“What I liked most about the contest was seeing students take initiative for their own well-being and the well-being of others,” said Principal Nancy Angelini. “Red Ribbon Week is a wonderful focal point for discussion and education. The more education we give students at a younger age, the more time they have to develop an awareness and knowledge.”

The money earned for winning the contest will go to support Stacy Middle School’s drug education and prevention programs, thanks to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the contest’s co-sponsors.
A $1000 check presentation, with a representative from the DEA to Holly and Paul Roberts at Stacy Middle School, is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m.
