Teen Rescued After 12-Foot Fall At Milford Quarry

MILFORD, MA — Milford police are urging residents to avoid quarries after an incident in town.

An 18-year-old woman was rescued Sunday after falling from a rock ledge at the Shadowbrook Quarries, according to Milford police. The fall was reported around 7:03 p.m. Sunday when officials recieved a 911 call saying the woman had fallen about 12 feet onto jagged rocks.

Police officers were first to arrive and were led to the woman by witnesses, who reported she had briefly lost consciousness after the fall. Officers climbed down to reach her and found her conscious but bleeding from several areas while lying among broken bottles and leaves, police said.

The woman had no memory of the fall, according to police.

As firefighters and EMS personnel arrived, paramedics lowered rescue equipment to the woman and lifted her back to the surface. She was then transported by UTV to a waiting ambulance.

“We're grateful for the outstanding teamwork displayed by our police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and communications officers for bringing this patient to safety,” Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said in a statement.

The woman was taken by LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Warning About Dangers Of Entering Quarries

Chief Tusino said the incident should serve as a warning about the dangers of entering the quarries.

“While we're thankful this incident did not have an even more tragic outcome, it serves as an important reminder that the quarries are not a safe place for recreation,” Tusino said. “We continue to strongly discourage anyone from entering the property or swimming in the quarries. The steep rock faces, unstable terrain, and limited access for emergency responders create an extremely dangerous environment where a single misstep can have life-altering consequences for civilians and responders.”
