NEEDHAM, Mass. — [October 6, 2026] — Needham Bank, in partnership with Dementia Friendly Natick, will introduce dedicated dementia-friendly banking hours at its Natick branch beginning October 17, 2026. As part of a pilot program, the branch at 17 West Central Street will open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month, providing a quieter, more supporting banking environment for people living with dementia and their caregivers.

Stephen Walls, VP Branch Manager, was inspired to lead this effort after dementia affected his own family. "I recognize the unique challenges people living with dementia and their caregivers may face, and I am proud to introduce these dedicated hours at our Natick branch as part of Needham Bank's commitment to responsive, community-focused banking," Walls said. The initiative is designed to create a comfortable, supportive environment through consistency, familiarity and personalized assistance, making banking more accessible and less stressful.

During these dedicated hours, the branch will reduce lighting, noise and activity where possible to provide a calmer customer experience. Employees will also be available to discuss appropriate account safeguards and fraud-prevention resources with customers and caregivers, subject to applicable privacy and authorization requirements. Natick branch employees will receive dementia-friendly training to help them serve the community with greater awareness and understanding.

Needham Bank is a member of Dementia Friendly Natick, an initiative of the Natick Council on Aging and Human Services. The initiative brings together local organizations and service providers to raise awareness and strengthen community support for residents living with dementia and their caregivers.

"We're excited about our partnership with Needham Bank and look forward to this pilot program which will meet the needs of many of our residents," said Debra Budd,

Assistant Director, Services & Outreach, Natick Council on Aging and Human Services and Co-Chair, Dementia Friendly Natick Action Team.

Paula Panchuck, member of the Council on Aging Board and Co-Chair, Dementia Friendly Natick Action Team added, "In establishing dementia-friendly banking hours in Natick, Needham Bank demonstrates their clear understanding of the vital role that banks and financial services professionals play in helping people living with dementia stay independent and secure."

In Massachusetts, an estimated 12.9% of adults age 65 and older live with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias. By offering a more predictable and supportive branch experience, the pilot is intended to improve access to banking services while helping customers and caregivers navigate their financial needs safely.
