The total purse for the marathon is $850K, and the economic impact it has on the area is $181.9 million.

BOSTON, MA — One of the country's biggest and most prestigious long-distance running events is coming up, and will once again draw 30,000 runners and some half a million spectators to Boston and towns along the marathon route.

The 120th running of the Boston Marathon is Monday, April 18, with the 26.2-mile route starting in Hopkinton, weaving through Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley and into Boston.

Since the field is limited to 30,000, thousands of qualifiers don't make it each year.
