Caregiver Care provides support and education for family caregivers

Century Health Systems, which provides high-quality, innovative health education and wellness programs throughout the MetroWest community, recently kicked-off its Natick Caregiver Care program.

The first program in the series, Basic First Aid: An overview of first aid in the home, was led by Juanita Allen Kingsley, Century Health Systems’ Director of Business Development. The next session, Infection control in the home, will take place on June 6 and will be led by Jean Sniffin, RN, Community Health Nurse for the Natick VNA and Century Health Systems.

Caregiver Care, which was designed by Century Health Systems and the Natick Council on Aging, serves family caregivers in MetroWest. It is meant to provide support and technical skills to individuals who provide care to a family member or friend without compensation. 

Caregiver Care Natick will be held at the Natick Community-Senior Center at 117 East Central Street in Natick on the first Thursday of the month through November 2013, with the exception of July 2013.

Each session will begin at 9:45 am with coffee and donuts and will be followed by a skill-building and educational session, lunch and supportive discussion facilitated by Natick Human Services & Council on Aging clinical social worker, Christina Player. The program will end at 1 pm.

Additional Caregiver Care topics will include:

  • Balance matters: Preventing falls
  • An introduction to Palliative Care
  • Managing dementia behaviors during the holidays
  • MetroWest Meds: Solutions for cutting prescription drug costs

The Caregiver Care Program is made possible through a grant provided by the Tufts Health Plan Foundation.
