Local Squash Star Helps Win National Title

Paul Mathieson, Head Squash Professional & Director of Dover Squash & Fitness in Natick, MA, is pleased to announce that Cohasset native, Derick Buffum won the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championship with Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. As a member of the squad, Buffum helped the Trinity Bantams - considered the best collegiate squash program in the country - finish their perfect season with their 14th title in 15 years. The Trinity Bantams won the championship game with a 6-3 victory over Harvard.
The freshman has a long history with squash. His grandfather, Charles Buffum, sparked his interest in the sport, having played for Trinity College as the captain and player number one. Since the age of 11, Buffum has traveled 2 hours round trip by train to be coached by Mathieson. He was ranked as MVP and player number one at his high school, Tabor Academy in Marion, MA.

A UK native and a former professional squash player, Mathieson has spent the past 15 years coaching people of all ages and skill levels and has worked with Buffum for eight years. “Derick is very committed to his squash game and he works extremely hard,” states Mathieson. “It is his passion and dedication that make him fully deserving of everything he is achieving.”

Dover Squash Academy has continuously espoused a mission to support and encourage the sport through coaching and mentorship.
