Celebrate National Poetry Month with the Morse Institute Library

Find great poetry events throughout the month at the Morse Institute Library.

April is National Poetry Month and the Morse Institute Library in Natick is honoring poetry throughout the month with events for children and adults.

Events will include a drop-in Open Art Craft Time for children aged 3-10 on April 25th, and the all-ages Poetry Slam 2015 with Slam Master Geof Hewitt on April 30th at 7:00 at The Center for Arts in Natick. More information about all of these events is available at the library or online at MorseInstitute.org.

Ongoing throughout the month will be the library’s virtual poetry reading on our YouTube channel featuring library staff members sharing some of their favorite poems and local poets reading their own original works including Andrew Green, Raffael de Gruttola, Diane Silvestri, Carla Schwartz and more.

User Experience Librarian Dave Bartos, developed the concept of the virtual poetry reading, saying, “I thought about poetry being a verbal media, not just text but speaking.” He first thought of having Morse Institute staff read favorite poems. Karen Perkins, also of the library, suggested he reach out to local poets. “It’s been great,” says Bartos. “I get to have these one-on-one poetry readings, and then share them with the public.” Bartos will be recording videos throughout the month and posting them to the YouTube channel as he finishes them.
