Dam Removal In Natick Is Moving Ahead, Town Will Share Update

NATICK, MA — The public will hear an update next week on plans to remove a dam along the Charles River in Natick.

The project began in 2023 with environmental reviews, engineering work and permitting. Now work will soon begin on the actual removal of the dam and efforts to restore the local stretch of the river.

A contractor has been hired for the work, according to a document posted in advance of the Natick Select Board meeting on Wednesday. This phase of the project is expected to cost over $1.1 million.

The initial preparation work cost $278,000, bringing the expected costs for the two phases to a total of nearly $1.4 million. However, grant funds are paying for the vast majority of that amount.

The Select Board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 27 at Natick Town Hall. More information can be found here.
