Edward Tierney, Jr., Army Vet, Hockey Coach, Passes Away at 82

Tierney was formerly of Natick, where he coached hockey at the Natick Rink for many years.

Edward F. Tierney, Jr., formerly of Natick, passed away on June 10 at the Avow Hospice House in Naples, Florida. He was 82 years old.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara M. (Fitzgerald) Tierney, sharing 58 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Capt. Edward and Lillian (Murphy) Tierney. He attended Cambridge schools and served in the United States Army, being honorably discharged in 1955.

After his marriage to Barbara in 1956, they enjoyed a life together with their two children, Mary Beth and Eddie in Natick, where Ed was a hockey enthusiast, coaching and refereeing hockey at the Natick rink for many years.

Ed was in the printing business for over 30 years, officially retiring in 1996. After retirement, he and Barbara enjoyed spending their time in their homes in Naples, FL, Tuftonboro, NH, and Massachusetts, most recently in Weymouth.

Mr. Tierney enjoyed boating on Lake Winnipesaukee, golfing and swimming in Florida, and spending time with his five grandchildren in Massachusetts.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, Ed is survived by his two children, daughter Mary Beth Tello and her husband Guillermo of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and son, Edward Tierney and his wife Danielle of Weymouth, MA, and by five grandchildren: Nicolas Tello of New York, NY; Liam Tello of Santo Domingo, DR and Eoin, Maggie and Campbell Tierney of Quincy and Weymouth, MA. He is also survived by his sister, Regina Tierney, of Belmont, MA; his sisters-in-law Nancy Hobson of Pittsfield and Charlotte Martorana of Natick, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common on Monday, June 15th at 9:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church, Natick at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.

Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Natick with Military Honors. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, June 14th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Ed’s memory may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Florida 34105.
