Each October and November, the largest concentration of polar bears in the world gathers in Churchill, Manitoba to await the formation of sea ice on Hudson Bay. The tundra of Churchill becomes the playground for hundreds of these amazing bears. Adolescent males spar and wrestle to tone their bodies and test their strength, while protective mothers keep close watch of their cubs. Once the ice forms, the entire population of bears is gone overnight, in search of the seals that will sustain them through the next summer and fall. Now, this population of polar bears is in danger. Climate change is causing the ice to form later and break up earlier each year, dramatically shortening the seal hunting season. With less food to sustain them, polar bears are in a struggle for survival.
