Sport:  Hockey

Why he shines: Timmy, age 12, has been playing hockey since he was 3-years-old.  He is currently a left wing for the Boston Junior Bruins PeeWee Major team.  Timmy is a high honors student at and also plays on the Natick Comets PeeWee A team.

Timmy and the Boston Junior Bruins qualified for and were invited to compete in the 53rd Annual Quebec PeeWee Hockey Tournament held in Quebec City from February 11 to 19.  The tournament is the largest youth hockey tournament held in Canada and is compared to the U.S. Little League World Series. Held at the Pepsi Coliseum, the tournament showcased teams from over 16 countries and hosted over 200,000 fans.  The games were televised nationally throughout Canada.

Timmy and his Junior Bruins teammates stayed with French-Canadian families during their visit to Quebec City and were exposed to many facets of Canadian heritage, including the French language.

During the trip, Timmy and his teammates went dog-sledding, snow-tubing, toured the Parliament building, and played in an outdoor arena as well as in a famous Quebec arena located in the middle of a shopping mall.

The Boston Junior Bruins team is made up of players from Allston-Brighton, Arlington, Cambridge, Charlestown, Dedham, Dorchester, Hyde Park, Natick, Needham, West Roxbury, South Boston, Wellesley and Weston.

The Boston Junior Bruins PeeWee Majors raised $45,000 to fund the trip.  Timmy would like to thank the many Natick businesses, friends and neighbors who helped him raise funds and enabled him to take the “once in a lifetime” trip.

He is the son of Tim and Laurel Kelly.  Timmy’s brothers, Liam, a 5th grader at Kennedy, and Shane, a 3rd grader at , also play hockey for the Boston Junior Bruins.
