'FIDO' Group Pushes for Natick Off-Leash Dog Park

A volunteer organization in Natick is hoping to get its nonprofit status, and a dog park in town.

The all-volunteer organization FIDO is a group based in Natick, and they have a goal: to get an off-leash dog park built in town.

FIDO, which stands for “fun informed dog owners,” explains on Facebook that the group is “for those interested, to collectively brainstorm, plan, and organize the Natick Dog Park initiative.”

The group started about a year ago to lobby to the town for the park, reported the Boston Globe in a recent feature on the organization.FIDO is looking at an acre in town near the Middlesex Path as a perfect spot for the park, and Town Administrator Martha White is applying for grant money from the Stanton Foundation to assist.

Frank Stanton, who died in 2006, established the Be Kind to Animals clubs called Bands of Mercy, and also raised money for many animal welfare projects, including establishing off-leash dog parks, according to Wikipedia.
