Fifth Middlesex Towns Receive DEP Grants

Natick, Sherborn, and Millis received grants for the Recycling Dividends Program from the Department of Environmental Protection.

BOSTON- Representative David P. Linsky (D-Natick) announced that the three towns in the Fifth Middlesex District are recipients of Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP) Grants for the Recycling Dividends Program (RDP) from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

The Sustainable Materials Recovery Program, a Massachusetts legislative initiative, directs a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Waste Energy Certificates to recycling programs approved by MassDEP. The SMRP grants offer funding to cities, towns, and regional entities for recycling, composting, reuse, and source reduction activities that will increase diversion of municipal solid waste and household hazardous waste from disposal. The Recycling Dividends Program Grants will provide payments to municipalities that have implemented specific programs and policies proven to maximize reuse, recycling and waste reduction.

“Recycling Dividends Program Grants are awarded to municipalities that have implemented specific programs and policies proven to maximize reuse, recycling, and waste reduction. I am proud that Millis, Natick, and Sherborn were each awarded one of these grants,” said Representative Linsky. “This grant money will go toward supplementing already robust waste reduction efforts in the Fifth Middlesex District.”
