Gallery 01760 —Art in the Alley

Public Art Natick, in collaboration with the Natick Center Cultural District is excited to announce the creation of Gallery 01760, a micro gallery which will be located on Adams Street in Natick Center. This micro gallery provides an opportunity for visitors to see and appreciate miniature sized original works of art created by many talented, diverse and varied artists. Not to be confused with a Free Little Art Gallery, all of the art will remain in the locked gallery for our guests to enjoy.

Micro galleries started to be built and shows presented during Covid. One of the first to help start the movement and promote the concept in 2020 was Eben Haines, a painter and graphic designer for exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), Boston: Eben said at that time: “With the ongoing shutdowns and lockdowns across the globe, artists are having to stay home, and away from their studios. For most of us, that means drastically less space to create,”. With that in mind, he and a handful of other artists built mini galleries that could be placed either inside or outside and reached out via social media to request art to fill the galleries. Since that time the concept has been embraced and promoted as a new source of artistic expression.

Denise Girardin and Ed Hudson, members of Public Art Natick, have completed the gallery design and are working on both production of the box it will be housed in as well as scheduling art to exhibit in 2024 - 2025.

Gallery 01760 measures 32” wide, 13 1/2" deep and 17” in height. Each display-only exhibition will run for one month. The gallery may be filled with one single piece of art or a collection of smaller works. Shows may be a solo artist or a group show. Art may be of any medium that fits within the space. The gallery itself will have an acrylic roof and door which will help provide illumination to highlight the art. Guests are invited to visit the gallery and enjoy the art at any time, day or night.

Acceptable mediums include sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, collage, digital art, jewelry, textiles and more. Gallery 01760 welcomes art from both emerging and established artists. Submissions will be curated by a variety of local artists and patrons. Contact information for artists will be provided outside the box so that sales can be privately handled between artist and buyer.

A grand opening and reception featuring the gallery’s first exhibition is planned for Thursday, July 18th, 2024.
