'I Still Really Like the Guy and Want Him Back': Go Ask Wally

This week, Wally helps someone who is obsessed with Instagram, and a certain account focusing on a bunny. Plus, watch Wally jump wildly.

NATICK, MA - He’s a bonafide Internet sensation, and probably the biggest bunny celebrity to hit social media. Wally the Bunny has 217,000 followers on Instagram, and he’s been featured in numerous media outlets, including People Magazine, CNN, Good Morning America and the Boston Globe.

Now, Wally (and Molly) assist and entertain Patch readers each week with the advice column “Go Ask Wally.” Each week, we’ll field questions from readers, and pick the most interesting one, with Wally answering one question each Monday on Natick Patch.

QUESTION: Hello! How are ya? I've seen Wally and I follow him on several social media sites now. Stunning little fella, I shall say. Lately, I've been feeling extremely down due to a break up. I have a bunny myself and her name is Morocco. She hates seeing me sad so I try to be happy around her but nothing is really working..I still really like the guy and I want to get back together with him but how can I do that?

ANSWER: Hi, Morocco’s Mommy! It’s ME, Wally! (I will call you MM for short.)

How difficult it is to try to be happy around Morocco when you’re extremely down! Welcoming your emotions is very important, MM. Although counterintuitive, buying a welcome doormat is insufficient. You must simply allow yourself to feel your feelings! When we learn to accept and tolerate our emotions, we realize our strength and courage. And we don’t make silly decisions just to make the feelings go away. Allow me to share a personal example.

One day I was on the front porch eating pansies when Molly told me it was time to stop. My belly and spirit felt hollow and alone. I longed to return and stuff my cheeks with purple petals, but Molly was guarding the pansies. And so I desperately attempted to alleviate my sadness by gnawing on the porch banister. The day I realized I’d rather eat a porch than experience sadness was the day I decided to make peace with my feelings. Sometimes we rekindle relationships to ease our pain – even when the relationship was suffering. You must examine your desire to get back together. Will this truly be good for you? Or must you make peace with your feelings?

Remember, MM: never pickle your emotions! When feelings are packed in a jar and ignored, they sour and ferment. Pickled emotions are a nightmare! You must attend to them now! And pets are exquisite helpers! Did you know that bunnies make excellent tear absorbers? Use Morocco for comfort as you let yourself be sad; she will support you. Talk to her about why you are sad, cry in her fur, sit by her as you write in a journal, listen to your favorite song together while truly allowing yourself to feel sad. I promise, MM, you will not spontaneously combust or melt like the Wicked Witch of the West. You will just be a person who is very sad or very angry or very lonely.

And then … cheer yourself up! Visit with friends, enjoy a walk, make yourself a delicious cup of tea, jump on the bed with Morocco, swing in a hammock. When you feel sad again, allow this. But always return to your activities of joy. As you embrace these, your difficult feelings will begin to fly away. Good luck, MM! May your journey be pickle-less!
