Local Championship Participants to Compete in Intl. JewQ Competition
This month, 4 of these finalists are headed to Stamford to compete in the annual International JewQ Torah championship! Let's cheer them on!
Since November, a select group of 6 contestants from the Chabad Hebrew School and GEO after school in Natick dedicated extra hours of their day to study for this past Sunday’s local JewQ Championship!
“When we heard about JewQ originally, we weren’t sure if we should introduce it to our already extensive curriculum,” says Chanie Fogelman, Education Director at the Chabad Center in Natick, “We run a well-established Sunday Hebrew School and a fantastic GEO Jewish Afterschool, as well as private Hebrew School groups that service a few dozen students. Who said we need this also? But incorporating this was one of the best things to happen here. It really brought the level of our learning quite a few notches higher. I'm grateful for that and for all the kids and families who were ready to take on the challenge.”
It was no easy feat. The contestants studied long and hard to be on stage, utilizing much of their own personal time. This Sunday, the students (finally!) faced off with one another in a game-show style event, while answering rapid-fire questions.
Questions such as: How many Noachide Laws are there? What are the levels of giving charity? And name as many of the “10 Commandments” were some of what was presented to the kids.

It was a proud hour for the students, staff, parents, and community members who came to watch.
And now… in less than two weeks, four of the students and their families will be heading for a special weekend to Stamford, CT. Two of the students will represent our local group as the finalists. They will be competing against Hebrew School kids around the world—all vying for a chance to claim the international JewQ Championship title.

(Developed by CKids, Chabad’s Children’s Network, the JewQ competition is designed to encourage children to learn about their Jewish heritage through an engaging curriculum, exciting incentives, and culminating in an international competition. This year, 3500 students participated in JewQ)
Following this year’s incredible success, our plan for next year’s Sunday Hebrew School is to master the JewQ curriculum.
