Millis, Natick, and Sherborn awarded Fire Safety Education Grants
234 Communities across the state receive grants for Fire Safety for Youth and Seniors

Boston – Representative David Linsky (D-Natick) announced today that Millis, Natick and Sherborn are to be awarded grants aimed to support fire education programs for children and older adults. 234 communities will receive Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) and Senior SAFE grants totaling $1.8 million in statewide funding.
The average number of children dying in fires annually has dropped by 78% since the S.A.F.E. Program began – a decline almost 30% greater than the decline in fire deaths overall. Considering that success, the Department of Fire Services launched the Senior SAFE Program to provide firefighters with funding to deliver fire safety education to older adults, who face a disproportionate risk of dying in a fire.
“I am happy to see that Millis, Natick and Sherborn will all receive S.A.F.E grants to help better educated our youth and seniors about the importance of fire safety” said Representative Linsky. I want to thank the Baker-Polito administration for awarding the Fifth Middlesex with these generous grants, and I look forward to the continued success S.A.F.E has provided our communities.”
