Morse Library Chief Will Become Worcester Library Director

NATICK, MA — The director of Natick's Morse Institute Library has been picked to lead the Worcester Public Library system.

Jason Homer has been at the Morse Institute for about four years, and took over as director in March 2019. Homer previously worked in the Marlborough and Wellesley library systems.

Homer will take over in Worcester in December, according to the library system. Worcester mounted a search for a new library director since the resignation of head librarian Geoffrey Dickinson in 2019. Dickinson took the job in March 2019.

"I am honored to be selected to serve the City of Worcester," Homer said in a news release. "I look forward to working alongside the staff and the Board of Directors to envision library services that will continue to grow with this vibrant and diverse community."

Worcester's library system includes a collection of over 1 million items and seven branches.

At the Morse Institute, Homer oversaw the elimination of fines for seniors and children. Worcester eliminated late fines for all patrons on most items over the summer. Worcester Public Library Board Director Stephanie Pasha said Homer was chosen for his "views on the importance of community connections and the desire to advance resources and services."

"Homer has the empathy, enthusiasm, and sense of purpose that we know this library and the residents of Worcester deserve," she said in a news release. "I very much look forward to working with him on the next chapter for the Worcester Public Library."
