'My Criminal History is Horrendous': No Parole for Robber Who Hit Three South Shore Banks in One Day

The Parole Board ruled that the bank robber needs to stay in jail. The man admitted to several robberies for which he wasn't convicted.

NATICK, MA -- The Massachusetts Parole Board based in Natick has denied convicted serial bank robber Leonard Orcutt, 57, his chance to get out of jail.

The board ruled in a decision on Dec. 22 that not only is his parole denied, but continue treatment for the substance abuse that Orcutt blamed for the robberies.

Orcutt was convicted of robbing the South Shore Savings Bank in Weymouth, Abington Savings Bank in Brockton and Brockton Credit Union in Abington, all on Sept. 22, 2000. The three robberies took place within a half hour, and he did not brandish a weapon, or cause injuries.

He was arrested in Whitman four days after the robberies, and convicted of the offenses in 2006, sentenced to concurrent life terms with the possibility of parole.

During the parole hearing in October, Orcutt said that he chose bank robberies because he thought it minimized potential harm to victims. He also admitted that his criminal history is “horrendous,” and even participated in multiple robberies for which he was never convicted.
