NATICK, MA — A small store in the Natick Mall specializing in a narrow selection of goods will close soon, the parent company has announced.

Seattle-based Amazon said this week that it will close all of its physical Amazon 4-star stores, including the one at the Natick Mall that only opened in fall 2019.

Amazon is closing all 4-star stores, plus its book stores, in an effort to focus on its new grocery store concept, Reuters first reported on Wednesday. Amazon owns Whole Foods, but also operates its own Amazon Fresh-branded stores.

There are two Amazon Fresh stores under construction in Massachusetts in Braintree and Saugus. The stores offer the usual grocery store fare, but also free delivery for Prime members, and the option to skip checkout lines with high-tech shopping carts that track what you put in them.

The Natick Mall Amazon 4-star store opened on Oct. 2, 2019 in the lower level near the former Lord & Taylor store. 4-star stores specialized in products that have, as the name implies, ratings of four stars or higher on the Amazon website.
