Natick Awarded Grant for Municipal Clean Energy Projects

Natick is one of 41 towns to receive a Municipal Energy Technical Assistance grant from the Department of Energy Resources (DOER).

BOSTON- Representative David P. Linsky (D-Natick) announced that the Town of Natick was one of the 41 recipients of the Municipal Energy Technical Assistance (META) grants awarded by the Department of Energy Resources (DOER).

The META grant funds are utilized by designated Green Communities, or municipalities in the designation process, to better inform their clean energy decision-making. They are awarded to Massachusetts municipalities, regional school districts, and water/waste districts to aid in the management of projects or the performance of studies to support the development of energy projects.

The Baker-Polito Administration awarded $505,454 in grants to 41 communities to develop clean energy projects, and the Town of Natick received a grant for $12,500.

“The 2018 grant for Municipal Clean Energy Projects is a continued step in the right direction for the town of Natick,” said Representative Linsky. “Clean energy sources should remain a staple of our town’s energy policy in the coming years, so that Natick can continue to be a leader in the Commonwealth in this area.”

The Town of Natick was awarded funding for a study to determine the efficacy and scope of a larger retro-commissioning project at Wilson Middle School. Natick intends to ensure that Wilson Middle School’s systems are being operated and maintained in an efficient and effective manner, a project that will help accomplish the goal of reducing energy costs and usage. Additionally, the town will use the funds to engage a municipal energy consultant that can help explore this opportunity.
