Natick Looking Into Going Solar
The town of Natick is applying for the Solarize Mass. program.

Natick is applying to participate in Solarize Mass, a competitive state program that offers lower prices for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems on homes and businesses, it recently announced.
As part of this Governor Charlie Baker-led program, the town would work with state agencies to pick a solar installer that would provide tiered pricing for panels in a bulk-buy market.
That means the prices would go down as more homeowners and businesses signed contracts, and the number would determine the final cost.

To qualify for the program, Natick needs to demonstrate residents are interested in learning more about solar. To gauge interest, the Town has launched a short, five question survey.
“Rooftop solar is a great option for residents and businesses who want to save money on their utility bills and advance environmental sustainability,” said Jay Turner, a Natick resident and volunteer who is coordinating the effort, in a statement. “The Solarize Mass model increases savings by lowering installation costs, and we hope residents will express their interest by taking our survey.”

Right now, roughly 275 Natick residents have installed solar on their homes, as well as local businesses, schools and nonprofits. The Natick Mall is adding panels to Sears and the parking garage this fall. MathWorks, too, is working on a project, said the town’s release.
Currently, Natick saves around $100,000 in electricity costs through panels on six of the schools and the senior center.
Natick plans on submitting the application to Solarize Mass. in November.
The Town will submit its application to Solarize Mass in November, and a decision is expected in January 2015. If it is approved, the program will launch in spring 2016.
