Natick Native Alison Fraser Comes Home

After decades of performing on Broadway, Natick High School graduate Alison Fraser is returning to perform You Can Go Home Again at The Center for the Arts in Natick (TCAN) on Friday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m.

Fraser, who has a Tony nomination, will sing the best of Broadway and a selection from her favorite performances, while accompanied by composer Allison Leyton-Brown on the piano.

“You Can Go Home Again has been an incredibly moving experience to put together. I really explored my roots and early influences, and it made me realize what a privilege it was to grow up in this town,” Fraser said.

The 1973 Natick High graduate has performed in many shows on Broadway, including March of the Falsettos by William Finn, who graduated from Natick High School four years before Frasier did. Additionally, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, the White House, the Tisch Center for the Arts, and Symphony Space. She originated the role of Martha in The Secret Garden and Ms. Darbus in the professional theatre premiere of High School Musical.  Children recognize her after appearances on the award winning Children’s Television Workshop series Between the Lions. Fraser has also released two solo CDs, A New York Romance and Men in My Life.

On the American Theatre Wing's weekly theatrical interview program, Downstage Center, Fraser spoke about her participation in both speech and theater activities while a student at Natick High School. She was a member of the National Forensic League, which at Natick High School is now commonly known as the Speech Team. She was also in many NHS theater productions, including some that were performed in the Planetarium, which is not in existence today. In the interview, she fondly remembered teachers Gerry Dwyer and Ed Jameson, and spoke about the cutting edge (at the time) surround sound and lighting that was used during many productions in the Planetarium.

Fraser was married to the late Rusty Magee, who was a composer and performer. Both have family living in Natick. Currently she lives on the Upper West Side in Manhattan and in Shawnee-On-The-Delaware in Pennsylvania
 with her son Nat, who is the son of both Fraser and Magee. Besides performing, Fraser is working on her Master’s Degree in English Literature with a concentration in creative writing at Fordham University in New York City, and Nat is studying Film at Chapman University in Orange, California.
