Natick Officials Publish East Park Update
Design and permitting will be completed this fall with construction to follow.
August 26, 2020
The Town submitted an Immediate Response Action Plan in January, 2020, summarizing the work that had been conducted to assess the extent of the PCB contamination on Town property, demonstrate that the affected area had been surrounded by a locked fence to prevent access to the contaminated soil, and described additional assessment that was proposed. In late February and in early March, the Town met with the USEPA and MassDEP to discuss the additional assessment and a possible remedy.

At the end of March, the additional assessment was performed. Numerous samples were collected along the slope at the property line and in between the slope and the baseball field. The analysis indicated that the extent of impacted soil is within the existing fence line. In April, 2020, the Town submitted to MassDEP and IRA Status Report detailing the additional sampling and analytical results and proposing that a cap be constructed over the impacted soils.
The Town’s consultant is in the process of designing the cap, which will then require approval from MassDEP and USEPA and permitting within the Town (Conservation Commission). Design and permitting will be completed this fall with construction to follow.
