Natick and Sherborn Awarded S.A.F.E. Grants

The towns of Natick and Sherborn awarded grant funds for the Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) and Senior S.A.F.E. programs

BOSTON - Representative David Linsky (D-Natick) announced today that Governor Charles Baker and Secretary of Public Safety and Security Daniel Bennett have awarded grant funds for the Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) Program and the Senior S.A.F.E. Program. The town of Natick was awarded $8,637 and the town of Sherborn was awarded $5,358 for FY17.

"S.A.F.E. is a vital program that has proven its effectivity," said Representative David Linsky. "Teaching citizens of the Commonwealth about fire safety and prevention is very important, and I commend the Natick and Sherborn Fire Departments for their dedication to this program."

Since the creation of the S.A.F.E Program, the average annual child fire deaths have been reduced by 70%. The S.A.F.E. Program provides resources to fire departments across the Commonwealth to promote fire safety education for students in K-12, and Senior S.A.F.E. works with seniors on fire prevention, general home safety, and how to be better prepared in the event of a fire.
