Natick Students Use New Math Skills To Serve Up Fettucine, Meatloaf
A sixth grade class at a Natick school recently got a taste of applying their knowledge of ratios to prepping and serving food.
NATICK, MA — When you get older, you wish you remembered certain lessons you learned in school. When you're in school, you wonder why the heck you would ever need to know in your lifetime.
This week, a sixth grade class at the Rivers School in Natick learned a practical lesson in the power of numbers when they applied their new ratio, scaling and conversion skills by helping to prepare meals for the Open Door organization.
The partnership was part of Leadership Week, and the students in Tori Wilbur's class, from beginning to end, determined the menu, which included fettucine alfredo one week and meatloaf with gravy and potatoes the following week, according to the press release. There were salads at both meals.

Both meals were served at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Open Door is a group of volunteers who serve meals each Thursday at 5 p.m. for anyone who wishes to attend.
