Natick Teacher Named Finalist For 2020 Teacher Of Year
The state educator recognition program listed a Natick physical education teacher as a semi-finalist.
NATICK, MA — A Natick physical education teacher was named a finalist for the Massachusetts 2020 Teacher of the Year recognition. The program honors a teacher who exemplifies excellent teaching in the Commonwealth. Four finalists were chosen as well as seven semi-finalists.
Jenney Pascarelli, physical education teacher at Memorial Elementary School, was named one of the four finalists.
To become a finalist of semi-finalist in the program, a teacher must be nominated. The Teacher of the year must show a proven track record of meeting students' needs in order to further student growth and achievement. Instructional leadership in the classroom in addition to being a respected member of and contributor to the larger school and district community. A respect for and understanding of the different perspectives that contribute to high quality education--including those of colleagues, administration, parents, students, and policymakers.

There are two round of the program left before the Teacher of the Year is announced. From now until April 12, a team from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) will conduct classroom observations for selected applicants. Selected applicants will be invited to interview at DESE in Malden, and will be notified by April 15.
Finalists will be interviewed between April 22 and 26.
