Natick's Kate Leavey Honored by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women

Kate Leavey from Natick honored as an Unsung Heroine

The Massachusetts Commission on the Status on Women (MCSW) held their thirteenth annual Unsung Heroines of Massachusetts award ceremony on Wednesday at the State House. Each year, the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women recognizes deserving women from across the Commonwealth who have made a difference in the community without seeking attention.

This year, Representative David Linsky (D-Natick) nominated Kate Leavey of Natick to be one of this year’s Unsung Heroines. Kate is the Founder and Artistic Director of the multi-generational choral group, Sound and Spirit. Kate directs over 100 performers in two annual performances and in weekly rehearsals, as well as uses music as a means of personal growth for the performers she works with, most of whom have no musical training and range in age from 8 to 86. She has inspired numerous children and adults to pursue their creative side and has engendered their self-confidence through the preparation and performance in the productions.

Thank you, Kate, for your work and your commitment to the arts, and to all of the women honored by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women yesterday, who make the Commonwealth a better place with their work.
