Natick's New Diversity, Equity Committee Seeks Members
After more than a year in the works, the town's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee needs seven members.

NATICK, MA — After more than a year in the planning stages, a new town committee dedicated to advising the Select Board about diversity and equity is seeking members.
The idea for the Natick Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEI) came in July 2020 as the nation was grappling with protests over police violence and racism. The Select Board formed an 11-member advisory committee to study how to create a DEI committee.
That task force in November formally recommended the creation of the committee.

The new seven-member committee could make recommendations on a variety of town affairs, from Town Meeting articles to internal policies. The committee will also work with a town Chief Diversity Officer. That position was on the fall Town Meeting warrant, but members voted to take no action on it.
"The DEI Committee serves as an advisory committee to the Select Board, and is charged with assessing and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion for all in the town of Natick," a description of the committee reads.
