Natick's Welcoming History

I was very saddened to learn about the threats and acts of violence towards our Select Board as they continue their discussions about Natick maintaining its welcoming status for everyone, including immigrants.

I have lived in Natick for over 50 years. What drew me here was its country charm and the prospect of having horses on my property. During all this time I have volunteered to serve on many Boards and Committees. During all my interactions with fellow Natickites, I have never experienced even the perception of discrimination or blatant discord to the degree which is currently prevalent.

As I read the many negative communications to our Select Board on the immigration controversy, I strongly believe that they are Typical Trumpian Tactics. The essence of them I have heard over and over for the past several months. I am so tired of all the lies and misinformation which has flooded the media outlets. The infliction behind them mirrors most of the GOP raucous rhetoric and really has no place in Natick

As far as putting the issue on a Town-wide ballot, it’s ridiculous and wasteful. The majority of the good people of Natick have voted for our Select Board as well as other Boards. We have entrusted them to do what is best for the citizenry of Natick. We also have a comprehensive Town Meeting elected to help carry out the wishes of the people as well as to help improve our Town Operations.

It's a sad state of affairs when immigrants are criminalized before they even get here. Natick can do better. Natick must do better. Please allow our elected officials to do their job for what is best for our Town and for common decency.
