'Not My Kid': Community Forum In Natick About Opioid Addiction

Cory Palazzi was an athlete, top student, and healthy. A heroin overdose changed that. He shares his story.

NATICK, MA — Everything was going right for Cory Palazzi. A National Honor Student, he was also into every sport you can imagine, and co-captained his high school baseball team. As a junior, he tore his shoulder out, and it required surgery - which required pain pills.

Palazzi succumbed to the familiar pull of addiction, which led to heroin.

His mom and stepdad got the call that he had overdosed, and rushed to be with him at Falmouth Hospital. They didn't expect the extent of the overdose, which was so severe that the hospital was talking about bringing in a priest, reports The Boston Globe.

An overdose in 2013 left him with a brain disability, but Palazzi now travels to schools and events to talk about opioid addiction in an effort to help others who struggle with similar problems and to help teens to avoid those problems.

Palazzi's "Not My Kid" tour comes to Natick High School on Tuesday, March 7, at 7 p.m. This community forum is for anyone who is interested, and is sponsored by Reddish Foundation, SOAR and Natick Together.
