Obits: Mary Zullo, Jerry Welch, Gretta Gwinn

Natick lost beloved grandparents this week, including a WWII hero.

Mary E. (Coppinger) Zullo, 62, died June 9. A Natick resident for 42 years, she was known to Natick schoolchildren for her work in the food service department at several schools. She  is survived by two children and three grandchildren. Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 15, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the , followed by burial at . Visiting hours will be Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Rd., Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.

Gerard P. “Jerry” Welch, 86, died June 8. A Naval veteran of WWII, he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry and intrepidity while serving in the central Pacific waters. After his military career, he worked for the Postal Service, and then as a toll collector for the Turnpike Authority. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was buried with military honors on June 11 in St. Stephen's Cemetery.

Gretta E. Gwinn, 89, died June 7. A former costume designer for the Boston Ballet, she is survived by 2 daughters, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was buried June 11 in Dell Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Liver Foundation, New England Chapter, 88 Winchester St. Newton, MA 02461.
