Natick Loses Retired Police Sergeant

Retired Sgt. John Longtine died at the age of 72; arrangements are Thursday and Friday.

Jeffrey Edward “Jeff” Longtine, a retired sergeant with the , of Marstons Mills, formerly of Mendon, passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 20, 2012 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. He was 72 years old.

Born in Springfield, son of the late Thomas and Delores (Cecchini) Longtine, Jeff enlisted in the United States Navy on February 19, 1959 in Cochituate. He served aboard the U.S.S. Amphion which was stationed in Norfolk, VA, until his honorable discharge on Feb. 18, 1963. Upon returning from military service, Jeff attended Northeastern University earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He joined the Natick Police Department and proudly served as a patrolman and then as a sergeant protecting the citizens of the Town of Natick for 38 years until his retirement in 2006. He was also a 1986 graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. A true car enthusiast, Jeff loved antique cars and was a member of the Ford V-8 Club. He also had a vast collection of WWII German memorabilia. Paramount in Jeff’s life was pride in his family and being a police officer. He also enjoyed singing and was a member of numerous professional law enforcement organizations.

Jeff is survived by his beloved daughters, Nikilette Walker of Melrose and Nicole DiVitto and her husband Steven of Hopedale; his cherished grandsons, Jonathan and Christian Longtine; and his devoted brothers, Thomas B. Longtine of Clinton, Gary J. Longtine of Barnstable, and Greg Longtine of FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a vast number of dear friends and fellow law enforcement professionals.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Jeff’s funeral from the , 4 Park St. (at Natick Common) Natick on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 9 a.m. to be followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in the Parish of the Good Shepherd at St. Ann’s Church, Rt. 27, Wayland at 10 a.m. Burial with police and military honors will follow in North Cemetery, Wayland. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. Those wishing to remember Jeff may do so through memorial donations to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, MA 01602.
